In continuation of my quest to understand the diamond industry and its economic, social and developmental linkages, I came across this documentary that runs through five continents and discusses the journey of a diamond and also lives of people connected to it..One of the characters is Manoj Bawa ..a 13 yr old diamond worker who has migrated from rural Gujarat to Surat...in search of work and dreams... I like the title of the movie..FIRAAQ..which means both separation and quest..search..search for peace, search for harmony, search for more tolerance..search for humility..search for more inclusive identity.. What is more stark though is the punch line, which reads..a work of fiction. based on thousand true stories...what happened in 2002 was true..real..but still one has to call the story a fiction poses some interesting compulsions..and also reflects maturity on the part of story writer and the director..
